The term “greenhouse effect” carries a negative connotation – but the gases involved actually serve as the earth’s thermostat. Carbon dioxide is just one of the necessary gases involved in the process, along with water vapor (H2O), methane, notorious oxide and a few others. The gases hold in heat like the glass walls of a greenhouse; without them, heat from the sun would escape our earth at night and the planet’s surface temperature would quickly fall below zero.

Our lives and everyday activities revolve around transportation and fuel delivery infrastructure. As we, as a planet, grow more industrialized and more populous, our dependency on fossil fuels surpasses nearly every other need. Numerous alternative energies and carbon mitigation processes have been presented as “the way of the future,” promising cleaner air, a healthier planet and lower energy costs. So with all these options, why hasn’t one method acted as a bellwether for change? Because they all need substantial infrastructure changes.
